school play

Hunter participated in his school play last weekend. He did a great job as Mr. Darling, Lost Boy and "Native American." Now I know that the original script did not use the term "Native American," it was PC'd for the benefit of the grade school audience and their delicate sensibilities. Hunter knew all his lines and enjoyed performing in the large group numbers. He was a little disappointed that after getting ready for his appearence in the large number "uhg a wuhg." He sat down to enjoy a movie off-stage (way off stage) and was never called by the parent volunteer and so missed the number. I beleive his crowning acheivements were that we could hear his lines very clearly and because he is tall and not shy, he was the last one seen waving enthusiastically when the curtains came together at the end of the show. Bravo, Hunter, Bravo!

Twilight Collision

Last Saturday we were driving back from a successful trip to Costco. We had just exited the 95 and were coming around the off-ramp when something flew up and hit our car. When we got home Michael checked it out and told me I probably didn't want to see it. All three children, however, were highly interested. They went around to the front of the car to examine the hind quarters and fluffy white tail of a rabbit lodged between the headlight and the bumper.

It seems that the unfortunate rabbit was caught by an owl. Fortunately for the rabbit, the owl could not get enough loft with the rabbit in tow to clear our oncoming car. Unfortunately for the rabbit, the owl dropped it at just the right moment in time and space to be hit by our car. And it hit in just the right place to lodge between the headlight and bumper.

Emily asked Michael if he could put on some gloves and, "pick it out."

And that's exactly what he did. When I asked him if he got it all, he said, "all but the head."

If I was superstitious I might have saved a lucky rabbit's foot to hang on a keyring. But, I wonder, can an unlucky rabbit produce a lucky rabbit's foot?

Bar Harbor, ME

We spent our first week traveling up to Bar Harbor, ME. After leaving New York, we drove to Portsmouth, NH. We had a great day touring a historical area called Strawberry Banke. We saw homes from many different eras and had lots of fun at a novelty store. We stayed in a hotel with a pool, so the kids had a good time too.

Hunter lost a tooth in one of the Strawberry Banke mansions.

The historic area in Portsmouth is built on landfill that used to be the area called Puddle Dock. A center for shipping and commerce in colonial America. The kids decided to pose as "bait."

Samuel kept standing by things and saying, "take my picture."

Bar Harbor, ME

Here are some pictures from the first few days of our vacation. Included are some shots from Portsmouth, NH and a few from Maine.

This is what the new bike rack looked like before Michael backed it into our friends van on the last day of vacation.

This is a picture of the kids in Portsmouth, NH. I've titles it "Bait."

This is how much better Michael felt after throwing up on the whale watching cruise. If you're keeping score, Michael has thrown up on a plane, a train, and now a boat.

This is a hump-back whale named "Breakers." He gave us a great show and made the cold and the throwing up all worth it. (Photo by Hunter)

Emily decided to try lobster. She liked it that night but says she doesn't like it anymore.

More vacation photos to come.
